Fraunhofer Society conducts application-orientated research for the direct gain of companies and to the benefit of society as a whole. The Society employs 12,500 people in 56 institutes spanning 40 different locations in Germany and has a research budget of 1.2 billion euros. The research activities of the FhG-IPA focus on solving organisational and technological tasks relating to the production areas of industrial companies. It also performs tasks resulting from developments and changes in the service sector.

The core competencies of Fraunhofer IPA lie in defining application scenarios, test scenarios and benchmarks, as well as in designing, specifying and developing the technology platform. Fraunhofer IPA acts as project coordinator.
