Fraunhofer Society conducts application-orientated research for the direct gain of companies and to the benefit of society as a whole. The Society employs 12,500 people in 56 institutes spanning 40 different locations in Germany and has a research budget of 1.2 billion euros. Among other activities, Fraunhofer IAIS develops solutions, whereby their intelligence enables people to reach better decisions and their autonomy relieve people of burdens and expand their room for manoeuvre. Knowledge computing and autonomous robots form the two focal points of the institute's activities which was founded in 1998.
